How Can rapid Heart Rate Along With Chest Discomfort Be Treated?

Im a 40 year old active female (130 lbs) with a normal heart rate of 100. The last few days I ve noticed it to be higher....anywhere from 130-100. I have had a discomfort in my chest area that comes and goes. Stress is a little higher in my life. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Stress does increase the heartbeat but it should not be steadily over 100 per minute. It is important to find the cause of your fast heartbeat. Having some examination to check your thyroid like TSH and FT4 might be important. If the thyroid gland is normal then examinations of the heart with at least an ECG and a heart ultrasound is recommended. Some blood tests including a CBC are important as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
